Just in time for the Merrie Monarch Festival, The Palace Theater will host the premiere showing of Chameleon Productions’ film, “Nona Beamer: A Legacy of Aloha,” at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

This feature-length documentary, filmed and edited by local director Linda Kane, offers a portrait of Aunty Nona Beamer shaped by some of the many people whose lives were influenced by her.

Through stories, songs and hula — and through her students, friends and colleagues — a picture emerges of an amazing woman shaped by a turbulent time.

The film features Gordean Bailey, Kaliko Beamer-Trapp, Puna Kalama Dawson, David Kawika Eyre, Nathan Kalama, Caren Loebel-Fried, Jerry Santos, Kaleo Trinidad and Penny Vredenburg.

Tickets are $7 general, $6 seniors and students, $5 for Palace “Stars.” Tickets are on sale at the Palace Box Office from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Call 934-7010 to purchase tickets by phone with a credit card during box office hours. The theater is at 38 Haili St. in downtown Hilo.
